The Wheeler Brothers
Wheeler Brothers
|
With an engaging sound that combines the twang of Texas folk with Southern rock, Americana and the blues, Wheeler Brothers have quickly become one of Austin’s most exciting new bands. The band is comprised of singer-guitarist Nolan Wheeler, bassist Tyler Wheeler and drummer Patrick Wheeler, along with guitarist Danny Matthews and lap-steel whiz A.J. Molyneaux. Playing music together has been a vital part of the three brothers’ lives since they won a Fender Stratocaster while back-to-school shopping as youngsters. All three brothers later attended Louisiana State University, where they met Matthews and started playing at parties and bars. It wasn’t long before music became a full-time pursuit for Wheeler Brothers, which added longtime friend Molyneaux to the mix and started making a name for itself in Austin. Backed by Texas swing legend Ray Benson and his label Bismeaux Records, the Wheeler Brothers released their debut album “Portraits” to rave reviews in 2011. In March the band had a marathon week at SXSW and were honored five times over at the Austin Music Awards, including awards for Best New Band, Best Acoustic Guitar, Best Misc. Instrument (for Molyneaux’s lap steel), Best Bassist, and Best Roots Rock. The band has gone on a national tour supporting the likes of Avett Brothers and Drive by Truckers, were recently invited to perform at KGSR’s Blues on the Green, and will also appear at the 2012 Austin City Limits Music Festival.
